Thriving in Tech: One Employee's Story of Lifelong Learning.

Oct 31, 2024

In the fast-paced world of information technology, new technologies and trends are constantly emerging, requiring continuous adaptation. That’s why lifelong learning is not just an option but a necessity for professional success. Globalization and the rapidly changing knowledge-based economy mean that adults must constantly develop their skills to keep up with modern labor market trends. According to Brief, one of the most important skills today is the ability to adapt to technological changes and acquire new knowledge.

Companies play a crucial role in providing not only cutting-edge tools for their employees but also in supporting their development. This is especially true in the field of IT security, where continuous learning is vital for success. New cyber threats and attack methods evolve quickly, and professionals need up-to-date knowledge to defend effectively. Companies that offer growth opportunities for their employees not only enhance their own competitiveness but also strengthen the security of their clients and systems.

At Services4-IT, we prioritize the continuous development of our colleagues' expertise. We are committed to providing them with all the opportunities necessary for professional growth, whether through training, workshops, or conferences. This mindset not only benefits our employees' career advancement but also gives our clients and partners a distinct advantage.

Hacktivity 2024: Inspirational Learning and Development

Recently, our colleague András participated in the largest IT security event in the region, the 2024 Hacktivity Conference in Budapest. Here’s his summary of the experience:

"The Hacktivity conference was a real source of inspiration for me. During the event, I had the opportunity to learn about the latest IT security trends and technologies and participate in workshops directly related to my work. The 'AI Security from First Principles' workshop was particularly memorable, where I was able to test theories in a real environment. I can already see how this knowledge will be immediately applicable in my work."

András highlighted several presentations that offered particularly valuable insights:

  • The 'AI Security from First Principles' workshop provided insight into how artificial intelligence can be applied in building secure infrastructures.
  • The 'Breaching the Perimeter' presentation showcased how the physical security of an office can be bypassed, emphasizing that physical security is just as important as digital.
  • The 'Linux Under Siege' presentation focused on the latest cyber threats targeting Linux and macOS platforms, with particular attention to the Lazarus Group, which specializes in cryptocurrency theft.

Hands-On Learning at the OpenSSH Workshop

One of the greatest values of the conference was gaining practical experience. András shared his thoughts on the 'Exploring OpenSSH' workshop:

"During the workshop, we solved real problems in a containerized lab environment, learning new methods for securing networks. The knowledge gained here is directly applicable to my work, particularly in the secure access of remote hosts."

The experiences at Hacktivity 2024 reaffirm the importance of continuous professional development for IT security professionals. Special thanks go to Services4-IT, which supported my participation in this event and allowed me to enhance my knowledge with the latest trends and technologies.

The Importance of Employer Support

From an employer's perspective, the employee is invaluable, and it’s essential to address both motivation and skills development simultaneously. These two factors reinforce each other, impacting workplace efficiency, performance, and a sense of commitment. They can also lead to new career paths and positions. Individuals who receive support for personal development are more likely to commit long-term (Huselid, 1995). Furthermore, motivation has a stimulating effect, contributing to the realization of an organization's innovation goals and the achievement of set objectives. A well-trained workforce offers creative solutions, proposes new ideas, and fosters the growth and competitiveness of the company.
